notes on installing fast estimate on A NETWORK
To use the software over a network you should attend to the following key points. Please note that if any of these settings are not applied then data problems may occur.
These changes will require permissions which may require access by a network supervisor.
From a workstation on the network (not the server):
- If not already installed, add Fast Estimate to the server. You can download a copy here: http://www.estek.co.uk/downloadfe6.html
- Run the program and ignore any requests to register the program
- Download your licence key as per instructions supplied with licence
email (requires a key code and a verification code)
- Make sure all users have full read/write/execute permissions for
all files held in the Fast Estimate folder and its subfolders
- Create a *mapped drive* to the Fast Estimate 6 folder
- Create a shortcut to the program fe6.exe file in the mapped drive
Run the Fast Estimate program:
- Set Data Path - When prompted, make sure the Data Path is set
correctly for the type of network you are using. Normally this will be the
Standard option but you may need to set the data path to a folder which is
regularly backed up if this is at a different location.
So if you want your data to be located in a subfolder of the Fast Estimate
folder select the standard data path option.
If you want to locate your data elsewhere so that it is automatically
included in regular server backups then please call us for assistance as
this will require the data paths to be set manually
- Log in as Supervisor using @@@@/@@@@ as username/password to access
the user table.
- Add a username / password for each Fast Estimate user on the system
- If required, change the Supervisor password (remember to take note)
On each network PC which is to have access to Fast Estimate:
- Create a mapped drive to the Fast Estimate 6 folder
- Create a shortcut to the program .exe file in the mapped drive
- Check program is running correctly
